Belize: A Village Experience: Spring and Summer, 2017
This course provided by Casper College gave me the opportunity to spend a week in a small community of Belize in June of 2017. During the week we volunteered in the schools to bring experiences to the students outside of their normal day-to-day routines. I spent my time doing some hands-on STEAM activities with the middle school-aged students. We learned about the history and culture of the area through a variety of required readings and discussions and learned further about the community by staying with host families while in the village. We also got to spend a day in a Mennonite village, visiting a school and experiencing their way of life. Being immersed in another culture, learning about their education system, and spending time with the students in Indian Church definitely made me a better educator.
Residency in Teaching: Spring, 2016
The University of Wyoming requires completion of the Educational Teacher Performance Assessment, or edTPA during residency. For this requirement, student teachers much plan a 3-4 lesson unit and complete all the required parts, as found below. I chose to base my edTPA around an Earth Science unit focusing on volcanoes.
